Rogue Protocol

Sci-fi’s favorite antisocial A.I. is back on a mission. The case against the too-big-to-fail GrayCris Corporation is floundering, and more importantly, authorities are beginning to ask more questions about where Dr. Mensah's SecUnit is.

Auuster's Takeaway

This is the third installment of the Murderbot series, where the SecUnit travels to another world to gather further proof about the crimes of GrayCris. In order to get on an abandoned platform previously owned by GrayCris, she disguised herself as a human security consultant that is protecting an assessment group. A routine assessment was met with a surprise as GrayCris attempts to cover up their tracks.

During the mission, the SecUnit befriends Miki (a friendbot) that is treated as a friend by the team. This is contrasted with the SecUnit’s experience with interactions with humans, always being treated as an object. This is especially the case when her disguise was exposed and some humans recognized her as a SecUnit.

The novella itself seemed to have a bit more action and depth than the second installment, as there were some betrayal and sacrifice involved. Additionally, the action scenes were quite amusing and as always was full of commentary from the SecUnit.
